Cultural Encounters and
Festivals
* included in the course package
Fiesta
or Festivals are
part and parcel
of the Filipino
culture. Through
good times or
bad times, a
Filipino
Festival must go
on. In La Union,
each town and
barrio has at
least one local
festival of its
own, usually on
the feast of its
patron saint.
Festivals are
celebrated with
all the pomp and
pageantry every
fun-loving
Filipino can
manage.
Experiencing a
fiesta is another way to
look at the idea
of culture in
ESL classrooms
as a means of
providing
opportunities
for English
language
learners to
share aspects of
their own
cultural
backgrounds to
other people.
Organized
activities for
students going
out of the
classroom
environment may offer
an opportunity
to share
information.
Asking questions
like, "Where are
you from?" and
"What do you do
for fun?" can
teach basic
conversational
skills while
also opening a
dialogue about
students'
backgrounds and
experiences.

Sunday Christian Fellowship
*
OPTIONAL but Highly Recommended!
We are aware of
our desire and
responsibility
found in
Leviticus 19:34:
"The
stranger who
resides with you
shall be to you
as the native
among you, and
you shall love
him as
yourself."
One of the
privileges of
being a part of
Lorma Colleges
is experiencing
Christian
fellowship and
community by
participating in
Sunday Worships.
Small groups are
made up of
families and
individuals with
the primary
purpose of
caring for each
other and
helping one
another walk
with the LORD in
every situation
of life. The
meeting
frequency and
times are
determined by
each group.
Typically,
meetings last an
hour and a half
and include
prayer, studying
a biblical topic
or book,
sharing, and
fellowship.
